What Changing My Hairdresser Taught Me About Client Loyalty in Property Management

And honestly… it was a long time coming.

The previous one hadn’t been great. The results weren’t quite right and the experience felt rushed. But I gave them another chance. And then another.

Three chances in total.

But here is the interesting part.

After each appointment, there was no follow-up.
No message asking how the colour settled.
No reminder when it might be time to come back.
No tips or advice in between visits.

Nothing.

So eventually I thought, maybe it is time to try someone new.

And do you know who I booked with?

The hairdresser whom I had researched, who had been sharing on socials.

Sharing their work.
Giving tips about hair care.
Explaining their process.
Providing value without even realising it.

When I was finally ready to change, they were the obvious choice.

This is exactly what happens in the world of Business Development Managers.

An investor might initially choose another agent.

You might have met them first.
Had the conversation.
Built a connection.

But they still go elsewhere.

What happens next is where great BDMs separate themselves.

Some agents disappear because they didn’t win the business.

Others keep showing up.

They stay visible.
They provide insights.
They have touch points.
They continue to add value.

Meanwhile the investor might be sitting there thinking the same thing I was at the hairdresser:

“This isn’t what I expected.”

And when they are ready to make a change, who do they call?

The person who stayed present.

Not the one who disappeared after the first “no”.

Timing matters.

Consistency matters even more.
