It’s Not Hard to Stand Out in Business

If you think about it, standing out in business isn’t hard, it does take intention.

A recent experience I had at a hairdressing salon really brought this home for me, and it’s so relevant to the world of Property Management too.

If you’ve been following along, you might remember the story about the $80 blow wave that went wrong. (The day before my branding photoshoot!)
After giving them feedback, the salon gave me a credit to come back, fair enough.

Fast forward to now: my regular hairdresser is currently on maternity leave, so I decided to give them another go and use my credit for a colour service.
Sadly, the experience still missed the mark.

The hairdresser assigned to me didn’t build any rapport, I had to be the one sparking conversation.
Curious, I asked her if she had done any extra training outside of her apprenticeship. She replied, “No, not much has changed.”
The end result? I left dissatisfied with my hair once again.

The business owner happened to be in the salon this time, and because I made it known I wasn’t happy, she stepped in and offered to rectify it at another time, so yes, I’ve rebooked. (Third time lucky, right?)

The Lesson for Property Management: The People Make the Brand

This experience highlighted a really important point:

Your team reflects your brand.

It’s not just about the logo on your website or the colour scheme in your office. or the values written on the wall, it’s how your team communicates, how they make people feel, the outcomes they deliver, and the experience they create.

In Property Management, the same principles apply:

  • Are you investing in your team’s training and growth?
  • Are they equipped to deliver a great experience that leaves clients wanting to talk positively about your business?
  • Do they understand the client’s needs and know how to enhance the journey, not just “tick a box”?

Mistakes or lack of skill don’t just hurt the client experience, they cost your business time, money, reputation, and future opportunities.
Tone, body language, proactiveness, communication style, these are all extensions of your brand.

Why This Matters

As a Landlord, a Tenant, and a Trainer, I see our industry from all angles.
And what I know for sure is- we have a BIG opportunity to stand out in Property Management right now.

Clients want connection.
They want to feel heard.
They want a service that focuses on their outcomes, not just the agency’s processes.

When you nail that, you don’t just have clients —
You have brand champions.

The real question is:
Who is talking about your service when you’re not around — and what are they saying?
